As well as varied and regular performance opportunities, LTAS prepares students for auditions (including those for vocational Stage Schools in the UK post 16 years and post 18 years) and provides filming experiences/training, recording opportunities and casting for TV work. Regular workshops are also organized for the students.

Premises

LTAS students are trained in an amphitheatre style studio which allows for in-house productions in a wide range of styles - Musical Theatre, Plays, Dance, Film/Cinema - throughout the school year. LTAS also boasts a modern dance studio, a well equipped music room and dressing rooms for the theatre.

LTAS believes that state-of-the-art premises are vital in giving students the best platform to thrive.

Musical Theatre

LTAS aims to give students the greatest possible individual attention from a dedicated, highly-qualified and caring staff, in order to develop their individual talents as well as providing them with the broadest spectrum of Musical Theatre training.

Students are encouraged to direct their natural talents in all aspects of Musical Theatre to develop the skills required and to work together in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and involvement.

The main emphasis of this course is on practical training within a comprehensive range of Dance and Musical Theatre skills. The objective of the classes is to work on the three core skills needed for Musical Theatre - Singing, Dance and Acting - and to enable each student to develop their confidence in these skills and to become overall confident performers.

What is Musical Theatre? It is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of the piece - humour, pathos, love, anger - are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole. Although musical theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like opera and dance, it may be distinguished by the equal importance given to the music as compared with the dialogue, movement and other elements of the works. Since the early 20th century, musical theatre stage works have generally been called, simply, musicals.

Dance

We welcome children from the age of 3 years for the following classes:

Jazz
Modern Dance
Tap Dance - NATD and IDTA syllabi
Hip Hop
Latino Hip Hop
Gym/Acro and Gym Dance - IDTA syllabus

For adults we offer a lively class in Salsa dancing.

Singing/Vocals

Expert tuition is given by specialist vocal (singing) coaches who work with students individually and in groups.

Practical classes include: vocal development, harmony, audition preparation, Musical Theatre repertoire, performance technique and exam preparation for the Trinity and Guildhall Singing (Vocal) exams - both classical and now the new rock/pop syllabus.

Acting/Drama

Acting is core to every subject and class taught at LTAS. Whether it be singing a ballad or performing choreography or reciting verse; students need to know how to act through Dance, Song and Text.

There are practical classes on improvisation technique, mime, monologue and script reading, sight reading, basic acting techniques, advanced acting and acting for screen. Every year our students enter the Trinity and Guildhall Acting/Drama exams.

Communication Skills

This class aims to increase confidence and skill in all modes of speech communication, whether for social or public situations. It is particularly good for children who need further practice in the English Language. Through this class, teachers work on raising confidence levels and preparing students to give talks, presentations and engage in discussion. For any parent who has been asked by the school to help their child engage in extra curricula activity in the English Language or who has a 'shy' child who does not speak very much in class - this is an ideal class!!

LTAS prepares students of all ages at all levels for the Trinity and Guildhall exams in Communication Skills. These exams are designed to allow candidates to develop and refine expertise in different registers of communication through spoken English. They assess a candidate's ability to engage with analytical and critical concepts, to persuade, to negotiate, to summarize and to communicate information, ideas and opinions in a variety of contexts. Candidates are also required to respond to a range of imagined scenarios and employ verbal and non-verbal skills and responses appropriate to them. At its higher levels, these exams have proved a valuable addition to preparation for a range of professions such as the law, medicine, business, religion, and teaching.

Piano/Keyboard

Under the expert guidance of a professional and qualified musician and teacher, this class is taught on an individual basis and the student can choose to undertake lessons on a piano or a keyboard in the specialist music room.

Practical classes include: music theory, composition writing, sight reading, and exam preparation for the Trinity and Guildhall Piano exams
